This is a new Canadian comedy by an Oshawa based playwright. Picture a struggling, unpublished playwright who actively works out his plots, much to the dismay of his household including his wife, his gay sarcastic chef, and his live-in housekeeper Mildred, while not being able to write one coherent line.
Charles Harrison III was a great success as a furniture salesman. As his wife Gwen recalls, "you were the one who sold the love seat to the two nuns." But his real ambition was to write a Broadway hit.
Brent Neely and David Lay.
When he married the boss's daughter and ultimately inherited the boss's estate, it looked as if he would finally have the chance to realize his playwriting ambitions. The only problem is, Charles is much better at moving living room suites than he is at plots and dialogue. Nothing he writes is selling, and his unusual approach to doing research for whatever he's working on is driving his household crazy.
He is almost ready to give up when Mildred Kemp, the Harrisons' live-in housekeeper, comes to him with a revelation. It's a hard one for Charles to accept, but maybe it's a way out of his troubles.
Brent Neely, Joy Worsnup and Terry Wade.
What Mildred Did! premiered at the Second Street Theatre in Grande Prairie, Alta., in the fall of 2010.
