Overview | Location

It is said that Emperor Claudius II was defied by valentine who repeatedly broke the law that had been passed and married countless couples in secret. All marriages were forbidden by the emperor because he thought such unions caused his army to grow weak. Valentines treachery was discovered by the emperor and he was captured and beaten to death as punishment. Pope Gelasius, in 496AD decreed valentine as patron saint of lovers and set February 14th as a day to honor him. The beauty and delicacy of flowers have captured the imagination of Kingston residents when it comes to love, so much that words can never compare to that.

Something that has become quite a norm on Valentine’s Day in Kingston and most countries is the delivering of flowers. Honor someone special in your life with some romantic valentine flowers; you can say a thousand words without ever speaking when you give flowers to someone you love. Millions of lovers vow their endless love for each other and exchange flowers and gifts on this day. For ages roses have been associated with love and it’s said that the Greek goddess Chloris created the rose from the body of a dead nymph. One of the most desired gifts of love in the valentine season are roses, particularly the red rose which has become a preferred choice of gifts because of its distinct expression of love in a form that is pure and eternal. The red rose has dominated Valentine’s Day but other color roses are popular as well. Greetings and wishes of love are shared among friends, parents, relatives and siblings on Valentine’s Day making it a broader celebration and not just something done between lovers. A man presenting his brother or father with bright red roses for valentines isn’t a very likely situation so knowing what the different color roses symbolize can be a good thing. Here are brief descriptions:

Red Roses - are considered the ultimate symbols of love
Pink Roses - (light pink, deep pink and pale pink) - are for warmth, happiness, joy and gratitude
White Roses - symbolize purity and innocence
Deep Coral Roses - signify passion and desire

Giving the right flower is important especially since each valentine flower has its own significance. It has become a practice of modern day society to order or send flowers online and they can even be received the same day because of the speedy delivery. Don’t forget your loved one on this day; get them some nice flowers that express exactly how you feel.
