Breast Cancer Action Kingston is committed to:

  • battling against the rising incidence of Breast Cancer.
  • research and advocacy directed towards prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
  • educating women/men, the public and physicians about the importance of breast self-examination and the benefit of early detection.
  • raising awareness of the scope of this disease by wearing our Breast Cancer Symbol, a teardrop shaped pink and black ribbon.
  • support for patients, survivors and their families as they cope emotionally and physically with Breast Cancer.
  • triumph over this disease.

Breast Cancer Facts

Did you know that ...

  • Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Canadian women
  • In 2008, an estimated 22, 400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,300 will die of it.
  • An estimated 170 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 50 will die of it.
  • On average, 431 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every week
  • On average, 102 Canadian women will die of breast cancer every week.
  • One in 9 women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. One in 28 will die of it.
  • Breast cancer death rates have declined in all ages combined and in every age group since at lead the mid 1990's.
  • Incidence and death rates for breast cancer have declined since 1969 in women aged 20-39.

A survivor directed group, joined in purpose to develop programs to educate, counsel and support women and men living with breast cancer, their families and the community at large

 

OBJECTIVES

To undertake public education, family support services, dissemination and publication of information about breast cancer

To promote and to provide funds for research into the cause, control and cure of breast cancer
